Message from our President
“Serve to Change Lives”
The International Day of Peace is celebrated annually on 21st September. This day is devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both at home, nationally, and among all nations.
At this time more than ever, with a raging pandemic, violence, and bad news stories occupying our airwaves we need to stop, take a breath, refocus and dream of what we can create together.
So, I have done some research and want to share with each of you the following 5 factors that promote a culture of peace.
1. Seek to understand
Understand and value the differences we find in people and the cultures we experience.
2. Promote economic and social stability
Eliminating poverty, food insecurity, and social injustice is at the core of creating a stronger culture of peace.
3. Respect all human rights
At the core of this is the belief that all humans are valuable – no one group is better than another.
4. Advocate for equality
Support the advancement of equality in society and in the workplace, through political and economic initiatives – speak up to address discrimination.
5. Choose democratic principles
Encourage the democratic participation of all in the community, so that every voice is heard in civic decision making and corruption in political leadership and operations is eliminated.
On another note, the membership committee is presently compiling the outcomes of the member survey sent out earlier. Thank you to everyone as we had an 80% response from the membership, which will, in turn, make sure that we achieve a well-rounded agenda moving forward.
There will be an evening meeting on the 27th of October, via zoom, (still presume) which will take the form of a membership forum to tease out how we all wish to proceed.
Stay Sane, Stay Healthy, and Stay Connected.
Regards and all the best,
Helen Nodrum

Sunday afternoon Jo was joined by Margie Lucas and several observers in a special cooking session in which Jo prepared what, at least looks like, a delicious orange cake.
The meeting was held via Zoom. 25 members participated and there were two visitors ( Sossi and Tony from Cilantro). The chair was Greg O’Shea and the guest speaker was Trish Reynolds formerly with the Australian Federal Police. Greg welcomed members, guests and guest speaker. He then introduced Trish Reynolds who gave us an insight into the life in the Australian Federal Police. (AFP).
The meeting was held on Zoom. Chair was Peter Nolan and the guest speaker was Brad Rowswell MP, Member for Sandringham. President Helen welcomed all members and wished our Jewish members a happy Jewish New Year. She also reminded board members of the board meeting on 14 September 2021.
In view of the fact that Zoom will continue to be with us for some time, I thought it timely that I remind members of some principles of Zoom etiquette. Like in any meeting, it's about respect and simple good manners.
I have endevoured to list some of the more common ones here and ask that members try to observe them.
As a rule, please don't assume that because it's a Zoom meeting that your behaviour should be any different than if you were meeting in person.
In a meeting, participants who wish to address the meeting or ask a question, please use the “Raise Hand” function. Remember to lower it after you have had your turn.
