For those who missed last week’s meeting our speaker, David Bartlett, was very interesting as he talked about the Safer Places Network project that he has started. After David’s presentation there was quite of bit of interest in the project. There is a link in last weeks bulletin to the site. ( Safer Places Network Website HERE Ed)
I would like to raise awareness of a project that has sort of vanished, this is the coin project. This project is used to raise funds for UNICEF by collecting foreign coins and notes. UNICEF is the abbreviation for United Nations International Children's Fund. This part of the United Nations (UN) aims to improve the lives of vulnerable children in over 190 countries by supporting children's needs in health, clean water and sanitation, education and protection from violence and exploitation.
I was reminded of this project when I recently received an email from Ron Brooks, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Boronia and had been the District 9810 coin project co-ordinator. Ron informed me that Helen Nodrum had handed over 2.7kg of coins and notes while both of them were visiting RC Monash Glen Waverley. If anyone has foreign coins or notes that they wish to donate I suggest that you contact either Ron or Helen; Helen is probably better as she is a member of our club.
The speaker for this week Colin Smith, an author who has written a book, Merric Boyd and Murumbeena. Merric Boyd was an early Twentieth Century Australian potter who lived and worked in the Melbourne SE suburbs of St. Kilda, Sandringham and Murrumbeena, at the time these were probably thought of as outer suburbs.

Annual General Meeting
NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING & CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR ELECTION AS DIRECTORS AND OFFICERS
The Annual General Meeting of the Rotary Club of Bentleigh Moorabbin Central Inc. Will be held on Wednesday 26th November 2025 at a Cilantro.
Business includes Presentation of accounts for the Club and Market, Statutory matters for the Incorporated Association, and the Election of Directors and Officers for the Rotary year 2026-2027
The formal Agenda will be issued later.
Accordingly, members are invited to nominate other members to one of the positions on the Board of Directors that need to be filled for the year 2026-27 as well as Auditor for the same year.
The Board positions falling vacant at June 30, 2026 are:
President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
President Elect (would immediately assume role of President Nominee)
Two Other Directors for a period of 2 years: 2026 - 2028
For information, the remaining three positions on the Board do not require election:

Two Directors - Kellie Carruthers and Larry Green commenced their tenure on July 1 2025, and will remain on the board to June 30, 2027.
All club members are eligible for nomination. Accordingly, members will be invited to either nominate themselves or another member (with the club member's consent) for any of the positions that fall vacant, and forward their nomination to the nominating committee (to be announced)

Stalls – about half stalls booked by casuals. Brisk weather no heavy rain. Flower sellers have fantastic proteas/ waratahs/ wisteria and anthuriums. Peter consumed a massive roast beef & lettuce baguette (with hot mustard) for morning tea.

With a US$2 million Rotary Programs of Scale award, a project makes high-quality care available to pregnant women, mothers, and newborns in Nigeria

In early 2024, a Rotary magazine writer traveled to Africa to report on a major initiative aimed at reducing that country’s high maternal death rate. Together for Healthy Families in Nigeria received a $2 million Rotary Programs of Scale grant to increase the availability of high-quality maternal health services and promote their use. The program was implemented in three Nigerian states and the Federal Capital Territory with the hope that it could be expanded in the future.
For more than two decades, Rotary has embraced innovative club models – from e-clubs to hub-and-spoke mergers – to adapt to members’ needs and expand its capacity for service.
For more than 20 years, Rotary has been promoting different club models to encourage clubs to adapt to how members prefer to meet and how prospective members prefer to volunteer. The e-club model was initiated in 2000 and the first club, Rotary eClub One in District 5450, chartered in 2002. The e-club pilot was launched to explore how the internet could be used to retain existing members and attract new ones.

Rotary initiative aims to lower maternal death rates in Papua New Guinea

Gwyneth Weuta is the only midwife serving a population of 12,000 in a rural part of Papua New Guinea. The area is a remote place where lush palms drink in the moisture that hangs in the air and forests are sonorous with the calls of shorebirds and tree frogs.
Last Saturday evening I attended the 90 year anniversary celebration of the, what is now, Rotary Club of Greater Dandenong and Endevour Hills.
The event was held at the Dandenong Club on Heatherton Road.
This was the Rotary Club that my father was a member of when I was a young boy. He was Club President on 1962-3 when I was 10. I don't know for sure, but I presume he would have been a member for some years prior to that.

23 club members and partners braved the cold weather on Thursday evening and pooled in the mess room of the Moorabbin Air Museum at Moorabbin Airport where everyone was treated to a beautifully prepared array of roast chicken and salads, together with sausages and meatballs, cheese, biscuits, fruit, and chocolates. Ewan McArthur, the general manager of the museum, followed with a presentation and tour of the museum that was founded in 1962 and which is operated by a dedicated group of volunteers and members.
Mini Globe Race competitor and Rotary ambassador Jasmine Harrison is currently sailing solo from Thursday Island to Cocos (Keeling) Islands in her 19-foot Rotary-branded yacht Numbatou, more than halfway through her world traverse.

WHEN we last caught up with Jasmine Harrison, she was 7,000 miles into her globe-spanning adventure, on her way to the Marquesas islands. Now on leg three of the Mini Globe Race, en route to Cape Town, Jasmine enjoyed a month-long stopover in Fiji, which completed leg two of the race. The novice sailor, who set off from Portugal in December, has now sailed more than halfway around the world, over 12,000 nautical miles.

Also, don't bother creating the article in Word or similar-just adds work. Just send the words and a few pics. I will do the rest.

A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is far superior.
