Message from our President - Ron's Ramblings

Last weeks speaker , Steve Crosling from Shelterbox, gave as good outline  of the history and the current makeup of the ‘kits’ distributed to those in need of shelter during times of major disasters throughout the world. We have contributed to Shelterbox for many years and it is good to see where our funds go
This weeks speaker will be our own ‘person behind the badge’ Barry Oliver.
As mentioned last week I will be asking members to vote on our annual contribution of $5000 to ARHRF choices are:
An Indigenous Health Scholarship Fund. In 2022 we approved $5000 to a scholarship, which was funded over two years 2023 and this year, The recipient was Isobel Kruger (pictured at right) who is studying Indigenous health at Monash University. The have asked if we want to continue this scholarship again. Refer here for more information.
Last year (2023) we funded a Remote Area Medical Support scholarship of $5000. This went to Christo Joseph who has just completed the course specifically in general practice,  and he has chosen to go to a practice in Bathurst.
Another funded ARHRF project is one mainly funded by Rotary Club of Mont Albert Surrey Hills in conjunction with the Danny Frawley Centre.  Jordan Vella is doing his Phd at Monash Uni. related to mental health outcomes of the effect of severe physical contact on elite athletes. Rotary Club of MASH may not be able to fully fund the project this year. He has chosen over 200 participants and it will take 2-3 years.
Thanks to Linda and Peter for hosting the Sunday afternoon social get together last Sunday. The afternoon was attended by over 30 members, partners, and friends who enjoyed a pleasant and balmy afternoon of fellowship.

Yours in Rotary  ‘Create Hope in The World.’
President Ron

Social afternoon at the O'Briens
Once again members Linda and Peter O'Brien generously opened their home to host a wonderful afternoon.
Whilst it got a little warm, we all survived under the shade of the trees in the lovely garden.
There were well over 30 present including a few friends of Rotary.
Our thanks to Linda and Peter - a great afternoon of fellowship.

Note from the Editor re Images and Events
A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is preferred.
Would any member like to take responsibility for the updating of the Club's Event Calendar? I have created a page of instructions here so it is very easy to take over.
Thank you, Ian Ballantine
