Message from our President

“Serve to Change Lives”

Well, how good was last Sunday with the return of our Rotary market. Whilst the day started with drizzly rain by 8 am that had cleared. Lots of stallholders sold out of products and the plant and Theo’s Garden soil trucks went home fairly empty. There were over 2,300 pedestrians attending the market and gate donations were above average.
Ron B. had our covid market well and truly mapped out and planned to perfection.
Thanks, must also go to Geoff Gartly, I am quietly confident that the large foot traffic at the market was in no small measure due to his diligence with facebook postings over the last week or so.
Now for the next bit of good news, Face to Face breakfast meetings from this week onwards to the end of this year. Meet at 7 am for 7.10 am start at Royal Brighton Yacht Club, The Esplanade Brighton. Function Room upstairs (take the lift at reception or walk up one flight of stairs).
Parking is either inside streets or at the middle Brighton baths next door to the yacht club.
To enter the restaurant, you MUST have with you proof of your double vaccination, either on phone, app or the certificate in paper form. Without this, you will be denied entry and we as a club can do nothing to change that.
There are no limits on numbers for breakfast so feel free to bring along, family, or potential members.
For those members unable to attend in person Ian Ballantine will be providing the option of a hybrid meeting so you can log in using our club zoom link from 7 am onwards.
Hands-on Community Project.
Looking for volunteers to assist on Saturday 20th November, within the time frames 10 am to 1 pm, either all or just an hour of your time assisting Glen Eira Police with their “Community Safe Plate Day”, details are on our website as is registration of interest or let Linda O’Brien or myself know your availability.
We will also put up an information table promoting our club and Rotary during this event.
Rotary members will be fitting anti-theft number plate screws or engraving bikes and tools to reduce the risk of theft.
This is a fabulous event for our club to be seen responding within our community.
Another project happening at present is our club’s Christmas hampers. We are compiling 100 special treat hampers to be distributed through our community partners. Anyone with a spare hour or so to help put the hampers together or deliver out to the community is asked to let Margaret Mason know.
Thanks go to Tim Lynch and Ray White Real Estate for the photocopying of the letters that will go into each hamper bag.
Looking forward to seeing in person all your smiling faces on Wednesday.

With every best wish
Helen Nodrum

Thanks again to Karin Soster for providing some great material.....
Winston Churchill loved paraprosdokians - figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected. Some excellent examples below:
1. Where there's a will, I want to be in it.
2. The last thing I want to do is hurt you, but it's still on my list.
3. Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
4. If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.
5. War does not determine who is right - only who is left.
6. Knowledge knows a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
7. They begin the evening news with 'Good Evening,' then proceed to tell you why it isn't.
8. To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.
9. I thought I wanted a career. Turns out, I just wanted pay checks.
10. In filling out an application, where it says, 'In case of emergency, notify:' I put "DOCTOR."
11. I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
12. Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street...with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.
13. Behind every successful man is his woman. Behind the fall of a successful man is usually another woman.
14. A clear conscience is the sign of a fuzzy memory.
15. You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.
16. Money can't buy happiness, but it sure makes misery easier to live with.
17. I'm supposed to respect my elders, but now it’s getting harder and harder for me to find one.
