Message from our President
“Serve to Change Lives”
VIBRANT CLUB.
I wish to start this bulletin report with a couple of quotes, many of you have seen these before and I have used the modern rotary definition in previous reports.
DEFINITION OF A MODERN ROTARY
Adaptability, flexibility, stable platform – service as the major component.
DEFINITION OF INSANITY
Doing things, the same way over and over and expecting that will yield a different result.
During my president elect training some 12 months plus ago we held a session on what a vibrant club looks like. The key points from that session are as follows, each point as important as the other:
Communication, communication, communication – cannot be stated enough.
for each other – value everyone’s contribution
Fun, friendly – fellowship –
Reduction of cliques – No “my seat” attitude
Club leaders – who encourage opportunities for service
Community Service Projects – active in the community -“hands on projects”
Cluster meetings – combined with keynote speakers.
Within this vibrant club strategy, I would like to offer another acronym for consideration to sit alongside the Rotary “four-way test”.
“ T H I N K “
T = is it True
H = is it helpful
I = is it inspiring
N = is it necessary
K = is it kind.
Thnaks everyone, and warm regards
President Helen Nodrum

Member Ian Ballantine, District Governor Nominee, attended a two day training session in Sydney with other DGN's. It was the first time we had the opportunity to meet in person.
Geoff Gledhill was our chairperson today at Cilantro, and called upon Greg O’Shea for invocation and Larry Green for the royal toast. Anna Mouradian, who visited our club last week, joined us again today as a club guest. Ian was absent from today’s meeting, so there was no Zoom.
Within hours of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February 2022, Iryna Bushmina fled her home in Kyiv. Along with her sister and her three-month-old nephew, she journeyed to Vienna, Austria, staying with Rotary members along the way. Their generosity inspired Bushmina, a member of the Rotaract Club of Kyiv-City and the district Rotaract representative for Ukraine, to organize a larger-scale relief effort — and now, an online platform she created has helped Rotaract and Rotary members find shelter for thousands of Ukrainian refugees.
Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation stand with the United Nations General Assembly in expressing grave concern at “the ongoing human rights and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, in particular at the reports of violations and abuses of human rights and violations of international humanitarian law by the Russian Federation.”
Faye Weeks was our chairperson at today’s club meeting at Cilantro. Sue Loeliger was invited to perform Invocation, and Paul Ferguson to perform the Rotary Royal Toast. Faye welcomed our visitors – Anna Mouradian, a former Rotary member of Balwyn North Rotary Club and who returned to Australia recently after two years in Armenia, Rohan Laging - Director of Sandringham Hospital Emergency Department, Emma Saddington - Nurse Unit Manager in the Emergency Department, and guest speaker Miriam Issa. Glenda Stahel and Tony Ryan joined the meeting via Zoom.
