Message from our President
“Serve to Change Lives”
National skills week runs from 23rd – 29th August. This agenda is about changing people’s perception of Vocational Education and Training.
Now in the 11th year, national skills week aims to address the positive messages, highlighting the talents, skills, career pathways, and value of apprentices and trainees in the workforce.
I believe our club participates well in the vocational arm of Rotary service through our sponsorship of Applied Learning Awards, high school end-of-year awards, and various Rotary-sponsored programs, e.g., NYSF.
To assist us with this arm of service, Rotary District will be conducting an online forum, Vocational Service Forum on Tuesday 31st August 5 pm- 6 pm. The link is provided in the last District newsletter or I am sure our esteemed editor Ian may well post it to our website, as a last resort I have the information, feel free to contact me. (Editor's note - refer here)
To assist us through lockdown there are a couple of other Rotary online workshops
Monday 30th August, Social Media workshop 7 pm-8 pm
Monday 6th September, Connecting and engaging with our Rotary Alumni 7 pm-8 pm
Thursday 16th September, International Service Foundation Projects 7.30 pm-8.30 pm.
Huge shout out and vote of thanks to Geoff Gartly, who organised a most successful zoom Trivia Night on Friday last, titled “Sale of the Century” and to his quiz master host, Larry Green whose encyclopedic mind kept us all in check. Lots of different segments and interesting facts to keep us all engaged. Thanks to all who joined in on the evening.
As lockdown progresses and I fear it will, please reach out if you need. And definitely STAY CONNECTED to each other.
Regards and all the best,
Helen Nodrum

We believe that exemplifying and embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) should be a part of everything we do at Rotary.
To ensure we live up to that ideal, the Board of Directors and our DEI Taskforce acted to strengthen the DEI statement originally adopted in 2019. The result is in a new commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion:
In a meeting, participants who wish to address the meeting or ask a question, please use the “Raise Hand” function. Remember to lower it after you have had your turn.
The call went out from New Zealand, and Rotaractors in places as far away as Denmark, Jamaica, Mexico, and Uganda answered. Over 30 days in October and November, they took part in relay races, practiced yoga on the beach, danced, and did pushup and squat challenges, raising awareness — and about NZ$7,000 — for a project to vaccinate 100,000 children in nine countries and territories against three deadly pathogens.
“They were inspired by our story to say, ‘We want to be involved in this. We want to help see these illnesses erased,’” says Becky Giblin, a member of the Rotaract Club of Auckland City, New Zealand
Many of you will have met or knew of Stuart McDonald. Sadly Stuart passed away last weekend following a recent illness.I had known ‘Stuey’ for over 45 years, first as a member of Healesville Apex Club at both club and District level, and then because one had to leave when you reached 40 years of age, as a member of Healesville Rotary Club.
The meeting was held on Zoom. It was DG Darryl Moran’s official visit to the club. The chair was Geoff Gledhill. President Helen welcomed DG, his wife Jenny, members as well as visitors Sossi and Tony.
The incredible storm that swept through the Dandenong Ranges on the late evening of June 10thleft a trail of devastation and destruction behind it and the nine or ten D9810 Rotary Clubs in the Hills in particular, were greatly affected.
