Message from our President

This weeks speaker will be Jeremy O’Halloran who will talk on the subject of ‘Hidden disabilities in our community’, and next week we will have James Aloni from the Salvation Army taking to us about Domestic Violence, a problem shamefully too prevalent in our community today.
Last week I mentioned the sale of the property in Frankston and the club will be shortly asked the club to determine how best to manage the funds in the short term. Please give it a thought and if you have any good suggestions please give me a call.
The Rotary Foundation is one the major sources of funding for matching grants for projects  in partnership with clubs  around the world. One of the ways we can support our own Foundation is to become Centurion members via an annual donation of $100 to the Foundation. It is a very small cost that has an enormous outcome. Several of our members are Centurions and some even contribute a greater amount. This year our club was successful in receiving a matching grant via the District Grants process. I urge you all to consider becoming a donor.
Last Friday I attended the final District Governors meeting with Club Presidents and I saw a presentation of how a club gained 10 new members and frequently used their market as a promotional and recruiting source for new members. Food for thought.

Yours in Rotary  ‘Create Hope in The World.’
President Ron Brownlees

Editor's Note - there wil NOT be a Bulletin next week as Helen and I are traveling to Singapore for Rotary International Convention.

Club Meeting May 15 2024
A very relaxed meeting this morning, chaired by Peter O'Brien.
It was generally a meeting of fellowship, without a guest speaker.
Grant Perry was back with his International Toast with a great presentation on Jamaica - the home of our RIPPR Haresh Ramchandani.

A special guest this week was Dee Mason.

District Conference 2024
Well, we had the District Conference this last weekend in Warrnambool.
I am so proud of the contribution of so many of the members of our Club. All of you contributed to the outstanding success of the weekend.
Having attended so many conferences in the past and watched other Clubs help their District Governor I knew how much "in the spotlight" it places the host club.
You all did such a great job. You made me so proud of my Club and I am so very grateful.

Market Report May 19 2024

Team members: Helen Nodrum, Brent G, Kevin E,  Vivian and Indra Chetty from Moorabbin
Other helpers and visitors: Julie and Alan Kempton, Charles Rener
Cars in queue: 0. Night parkers : 0
Pedestrian count  1200
Market Report: EFT $140.00. Gentle but steady market. Attempted to replace the broken pedestrian counter but none in any store in Bentleigh. Most of our permanent stall holders are opting to pay at the very end of the month not before. Stall 107-110 reduced by one stall for June, July and August - back up from September, form  filled out. Great to have our busker back

Note from the Editor re Images and Events
A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is preferred.
Would any member like to take responsibility for the updating of the Club's Event Calendar? I have created a page of instructions here so it is very easy to take over.
Thank you, Ian Ballantine
