Message from our President
“Serve to Change Lives”
Public holiday this week so NO meeting scheduled. Happy Australia Day
SYMBOLISM
The flag has three elements on a blue background: the Union Jack, the Commonwealth Star and the Southern Cross.
The Union Jack in the upper left corner represents the history of British settlement.
Below the Union Jack is a white Commonwealth, or Federation, star. It has seven points representing the unity of the six states and the territories of the Commonwealth of Australia. The star is also featured on the Commonwealth Coat of Arms.
The Southern Cross is shown on the flag in white. It is a constellation of five stars that can only be seen from the southern hemisphere and is a reminder of Australia’s geography.
For many of us, Australia Day is about celebrating the values, freedoms and democracy of this country. It’s a time for BBQs in the backyard, having a beer with mates, and proudly flying the Australian flag. Australia Day is about unifying all people who call Australia home.
We now live in a world where diversity, equity and inclusion are paramount to our ability to move forward and create the next chapters of our history.
With every best wish for this Australia Day
Helen Nodrum
This week there will be no Club meeting due to the fact that it is Australia Day
A lovely afternoon of fellowship, marmalade tasting and afternoon tea was enjoyed by a number of members and partners at the home of Linda and Peter O'Brien. The day was a little warm but we were very comfortable in the shade outside.
Congratulations Jo Impey on a successful tasting and our thanks go to Linda and Peter for opening up their home to us. Click to see more photos
