Message from our President
“Serve to Change Lives”
Starting this week’s report with a massive apology to Paul Ferguson, as I accidentally omitted him from the credits of those who attended the “Glen Eira Safe Plate day”.
This then provides me the opportunity to acknowledge the support and advice Paul has provided over our strategic asset property in Frankston and our roadmap for conversation with Glen Eira Council in regard to this multi-story Carpark for Bent St. in Bentleigh – the present site of our market. I also acknowledge his advice and support to me as I navigate the Presidency job.
To the next point of club matters. Our property in Frankston, which is managed by Homeground, formerly Launch Housing, and is placed in the domestic violence homeless arena, five-year lease comes up for renewal mid-way to latter 2022. With this in mind, the Board has requested from the Strategic Asset Team a detailed report in regards all aspects of this our club’s most valuable asset. The team completing this report are Ron Brownlees, Geoff Gledhill, Paul Ferguson, and Alan Kempton.
This week’s breakfast will be our last at Royal Brighton Yacht Club for this year. With the easing of restrictions and opening up, we are able to return to Cilantro for the 8th and 15th December get-togethers. I wish to thank most sincerely Caroline, functions manager at Brighton, and her front of house staff, who have moved heaven and earth to accommodate our needs in this environment where hospitality staff shortages abound and whereby Agency staff have had to be sourced so that we enjoy the breakfast meals that have been provided.
Now, that we have a new variant Covid 19 virus so-named “Omicon” lords know what next year will bring. Until the primary countries of the world can get in and assist the poorer developing nations with vaccines across the population these viruses will continue to “mutate” and get bigger and better as time progresses. So, the message here at home is don’t put off tomorrow what you can do today and whilst opportunities exist make sure you take them up.
The club will hold an end-of-year celebration/fellowship get-together on SATURDAY 11THDECEMBER 2 PM TO 6 PM. At the home of Ron and Marilyn Brownlees. The club will cater the food, members, partners, and guests will just need to bring BYO drinks.
Please register on the webpage or by letting a board member know that you are coming so that we can organise the catering component.
Our last meeting for this year will be on 15th December.
With every best wish
Helen Nodrum

Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta joined the Rotary delegation to the 26th United Nations climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland, on 10 November to explore ways Rotary can work on environmental challenges, including by restoring mangroves, a crucial ecosystem that can mitigate the effects of climate change in coastal areas.
The meeting was held at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club and on Zoom. There were two visitors, Samantha Langridge (Introduced by Jo Impey) and Gaurar Gaur ( introduced by Ron Brownlees).
The meeting took place at Royal Brighton Yacht Club. Guests at the meeting were Ken Oaks and Samatha Banbridge. The guest speaker was Jonathan Kolieb. Paul Ferguson was chair
Our club was happy to accept an invitation from Glen Eira Police to assist in their “Safe Plate Day” held on Saturday last 20th November at the Glen Eira Town Hall carpark area.
We partnered with other community groups, State Emergency Service (SES), fire brigade, and neighborhood watch, not to mention our local law officers. The SES truck, a fire brigade truck, and the very impressive police pursuit vehicles were there on the day – a definite drawcard for the families and children to see over these impressive vehicles. Last but not least thankfully “the coffee cart”.
Bringing Joy in a time of Depression. For more than a decade, RCBMC has teamed with Community organisations in Glen Eira and Kingston to provide Christmas Cakes, Puddings and Mince pies to bring some Christmas Cheer to those who are doing it tough. The goodies are packed and delivered to the Salvation Army, Family Life, The Holland Foundation, and Glen Eira Community Information and Support Services.
Vanessa Nakate, a 24-year-old climate activist from Uganda, made international headlines after the World Economic Forum’s 2020 meeting in Davos, Switzerland. But the story wasn’t what she said about the climate crisis. The story was that her name and photo were missing from media coverage of the event.

Team members: Alan Kempton, Margaret Mason, John Mason, Ron Brownlees, Venu and Vivian from Moorabbin. Margaret Lucas ( survey forms). Visiting Rotarians: Larry Green (had a stall). We had a perfect day for the market, no wind, sunny skies, great team who created a smoothly run market, happy atmosphere..lots of market surveys completed and handed out and plenty of support for our market from the pedestrian flow. Pedestrian traffic just over 1800.
