Message from our President
“Serve to Change Lives”
At this week’s breakfast meeting we will have an inclusive “membership forum” – yes I hear many say “not another membership talk fest – waste of time – not interested” and fair comment from the longer standing members of the club, HOWEVER, in order for Rotary to begin the next century of its existence and remain meaningful in today’s society, the subject of membership takes on more importance than I may suggest we give it.
Historically I believe Rotary has reached a ‘fork in the road’ when we need to be making a stronger commitment not just be part of conversations.
We are a service/project organisation, that really does imply we are hands on, so we need strong membership involvement to be effective and to realise outcomes from our conversations.
Rotary’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policy is functionally the roadmap for our moving into the next 100 years – there is no place for political or cultural bias in our clubs today.
Diversity of a club is its strength, where members feel safe and supported to lead with ideas, take chances, make mistakes, grow and learn.
“Growing membership increases the good we can do”
Fabulous club fellowship on Friday “Pasta, Pizza, Poetry and Plonk night” held at Kings Park Tennis club – huge thanks go to Linda O’Brien and Margaret Mason for this get together.
With regards the Rotary 9810 District conference later this month. Our club has booked a dinner for the Friday night, 25th, on-line component of the conference. The Marine Hotel is the venue, we have a function room set aside. Cost is $55.00 per head for three course dinner, drinks will be at bar prices. There is a minimum spend at all venues on any Friday or Saturday night so to readily make that figure we need 40 attendees – it will be necessary to register early. Go here to do so now..
Thank you to Margaret Mason, Alan Kempton, Peter Nolan, Neville Kruss and Sheryl Zorella along with Ian Ballantine and myself who attended the Rotary storm Recovery Festival on Sunday last in Monbulk. A show of support for the clubs in our district was important. Huge organisational component to this day – congratulations to all concerned.
With every best wish,
President Helen Nodrum
Our guest speaker this week is fellow member, Jo Impey, who will be conducting a Club Forum on membership.
If there is time, Ian Ballantine will give us a quick overview of our website.
On this Sunday our Rotary Club will have a stall at the market.
This will be an opportunity for you to do declutter your home of items such as books, crockery, glassware, handbags, shoes, plus any other homeware that are unwanted but in good condition.
Please no clothing.
You can bring items along to this Wednesday’s Rotary meeting or to the market on Sunday.
Currently we have Linda, Sue, Glenda and our potential RYLA student Claire helping however any further assistance would be appreciated. Register here.
This week we are once again back at Cilantro, 7am for 7.10am Details here
This week's meeting WILL BE available via Zoom, Meeting ID 3532621046 Pwd 3191 or click here

The brainchild for this fellowship evening was Linda O’Brien, beautifully supported by Margaret Mason. So many of our successful socials appear to have these two members in the foreground. In realisation of our community partnerships, the committee of Kings Park Tennis Club readily agreed to allow our club the use of its clubhouse which is well equipped to cater for most functions at no cost. More so to this the club president, George Leighfield attended as bar manager for the evening.
The meeting was held at Cilantro and on Zoom. The chair welcomed Graham Chad who was a visitor for a very short period of time as he was inducted minutes later. President Helen then reminded members about the fellowship evening on 25 February, the Storm Recovery Festival on 27 February and the District conference on 25 and 26 March.
As a result of ongoing disease surveillance, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) has confirmed a case of type 1 wild poliovirus (WPV1) in a child suffering from paralysis in Malawi. Analysis has shown the virus is genetically linked to WPV1 that had circulated in Pakistan’s Sindh province.
The meeting was held “back home” at Cilantro as well as on Zoom for members who were unable to attend in person. The guest speaker was Tania Hutchinson and we inducted a new member, Samantha Langridge.
Our Rotary club is a proud supporter of the Caulfield South Community House Community Garden, which is located at 450-452 Kooyong Rd, South Caulfield – enter the garden area off Jupiter St. Open days are held there each second Sunday of the month.

Mild weather perfect for a good sized crowd. Internet and casual sales strong - with only 10% of stalls vacant . Lots of early orchid sales and as always manure offerings retained best seller status. People seem to be relaxed with health restrictions a little easier for all.
A few very generous note donations in the money spinners (perhaps they recognized Tony Ryan who was monitoring Gate 2 as an officer of the court rtd). Stall 22 regular requests change to stall 23 or 26.
