Message from our President

It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Philippines Rotary Club of South Davao, VP&PN Sonja Garcia, Arthur, and Kathy Uy together with their daughter Kaely at our breakfast meeting on Wednesday.
Sonja spoke to us of the RC of South Davoa and their projects also thanking us for our contribution of a housing unit in the Rotary Village of Magsaysay. This was for a family that was displaced by the Mindanao earthquake in 2019.
Sonja, Arthur and Kathy brought along examples of the weaving by one of the indigenous villages their Rotary Club supports. The weaving and selling of these beautiful shawls will hopefully allow the villagers to become self-sufficient.
We also entered into a Sisterhood Club Agreement between the Rotary Club of South Davao in District 3860 and the Rotary Club of Bentleigh Moorabbin Central in the District of 9810. Basically, this means we will exchange Bulletins, support visits by both clubs, welcome club members and if the opportunity arises to support each other in District projects.
Sonja, Arthur, Kathy and Kaely showed us the wonderful opportunities we have to expand our network of Rotary friends internationally, they were delightful, passionate Rotarians. Story here.
On Thursday evening several members attended the Marriott Support Services 50th Anniversary Fund Raising Ball at Docklands. With 230 guests in attendance, it was a colourful, extravaganza with the band playing songs from the different era’s covering the 50 years since Marriotts inception as the White House.
Ron Brownlees was honoured with life membership as he has been actively involved in the establishment of the White House that has eventually become Marriott Services. Well done, Ron!
The Rotary Club of Bentleigh Moorabbin Central was also acknowledged for our ongoing partnership with Marriott Services. I accepted a framed certificate on behalf of our club and in particular the Community Service Committee.
It was particularly heart-warming to see Rotarian Kelly enjoying the evening with her friends, workplace colleagues and clients after months organising this special occasion together.
This is a wonderful example of Rotary forming an ongoing Community partnership which we all enjoy and benefit from. Story here.
These are two fine examples of our Club meeting the Object of Rotary.
Yours in Rotary,
Glenda
