Message from our President - Ron's Ramblings

Last week we had a very interesting speaker Fr. James Grant, who spoke mainly about his work with youths, mainly from an African background located in the western suburbs, and the problems they face trying  to adapt and find a place in the  community as it is today. The difficulties they face with their family structure and cultural and social environment and lack of respect for authority is apparently not providing the support or  ability for them to have meaningful engagement with their local communities and the outcomes as explained can often lead to undesirable consequences.
This weeks meeting has been moved due to venue unavailability from Cilantro at 7.00 am to 6.30pm (approx.) at the Cheltenham RSL. Hope to see you there for an enjoyable social evening and meal.
The meeting on Wednesday 27th will again be at ‘The Deck’ 212 Bay Street Brighton at 7.00am. Do not forget to book as we are still well below our minimum target.
Member and past president Greg O’Shea has sent us and invitation to join him after 25th September and spend a night and enjoy yourself at the Quest Geelong  at ‘ mates rates’.  Sounds like a great offer and would be good to help Greg get under way in his exciting new venture.
We have also received an invitation to maybe make -up a table at the MITS Gala Dinner at “The Carousel  on Aughtie Drive Albert park on Thursday 19th October. I have not been there for years, so might be a good night out.
A quick early visit to the market showed that the warm weather really  is our friend. The market was virtually full except for a couple of absent regular and booked casuals and over 2000 through the gate. Well done Helen and the team.

Yours in Rotary  ‘Create Hope in The World.’

Market Report September 17 2023

Team members: Helen Nodrum, Geoff G, Margaret L, Carlos and Anne from RC Moorabbin
Other helpers and visitors: Ron Brownlees
Pedestrian count  2100
Market Report: Pedestrian count is correct at 2,100. Beautiful day. Essentially full market. Some of the pink coloured stalls need to be reclassified to casual, definitely not used over last few months and sitting in key positions that could be readily sold. Efpos is $175. I know numbers look odd but did balance at the end of the day with cash banked.
Leader, Helen Nodrum

Note from the Editor re Images and Events
A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is preferred.
Would any member like to take responsibility for the updating of the Club's Event Calendar? I have created a page of instructions here so it is very easy to take over.
Thank you, Ian Ballantine
