Message from our President - Tim's Tattles

Unfortunately due to a sudden outbreak of Covid I was unable to be your president for the last meeting at Onyx.
This week we are back at Cilantro and we have a guest speaker Bob Richards speaking to us about rotary foundation. This promises to be very informative .
We invest a significant amount of money with Foundation and you will hear where it is invested. It is very rewarding for us I think.
We will have  some new members joining us on Wednesday so it would be great to have everyone here for the induction.
On wednesday the 9th october there is a tour of Moorabbin hospital arranged by Kellie. Call Kellie if you would like to come . We are inspecting the Cancer ward. Some light refreshments will be offered after the inspection.
Yours in Rotary  ‘The Magic of Rotary’
President Tim Lynch

Members are reminded of our Club's policy regarding the payment of meals for prospective new members. Please refer here.

Emergency Plus App
As members may recall, a couple of weeks ago we had reason to call for an ambulance to attend at Cilantro.
I am taking the opportunity now to recommend to members, and whoever else finds this article, to consider installing the Emergency Plus app on their smart device. And, to ensure you place a shortcut on your Home Screen.

Opening the app at a time of emergency will give you immediate access to the appropriate phone numbers and, very importantly, provide accurate location information. Often a simple street address may not be available or useful.
Read on into this article for how to obtain the app and a summary of what it contains.

Rocket Burn Barrel
Waste disposal, particularly plastic waste, is a major problem for remote villages and islands in Fiji. There is no recycling possible in these remote areas, so all garbage is either thrown into a casual landfill, burned in an open fire, left at the side of the road, or thrown into the sea.

Note from the Editor re Images and Events
A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is far superior.
Would any member like to take responsibility for the updating of the Club's Event Calendar? I have created a page of instructions here so it is very easy to take over.
Thank you, Ian Ballantine
