Message from the President
This week we are back at Cilantro for breakfast. Our speaker for this week is Dr. Daryl Moran, a past District Governor (PDG) of District 9810 for 2021-22. His topic is the new book that he has published and co-edited with Andrew Kilsby, called In The Fight, about the war in Burma during WWII. For more information please read the email that Karin Soster sent out earlier this week.
Last Saturday night was our District’s (9815) changeover, held at Pakenham Racecourse, Tynong. The event was to celebrate the out-going District Governor’s, Colin Byron, year and welcome the in-coming District Governor, Peter Behm. Our club was represented by Ian Ballantine, Helen Parker, Peter and Linda O’Brien and myself.
I’ll take this opportunity to promote the fund raising golf day that Kelly is involved with. This is for the golfing members of the club, or perhaps acquaintances as well. For more information check the email that was sent out to all members at the end of June.

REGISTRATION FOR MEETINGS All meetings will now utilise the Registration facility. asking members to register their attendance, or non-attendance, at Club meetings. Note that it is equally important that guests are registered as well.
Members can either register as soon as the event appears in the calendar or respond to the invitation(s) via email to members in the week prior to the meeting. This email will contain a direct link to the event registration page. Here, we ask that you either accept or decline the invitation. You will also have the opportunity to add any guests. Once registered for the event, you will no longer receive an email for that event.
If you choose not to register either your intention to attend or not, it will be assumed you are not attending.

District 9815 held their Changeover function on Saturday evening at the Pakenham Racecourse.
Members Peter and Linda O'Brien, Ian Ballantine and Helen Parker along with 2025-26 Club President, Grant Perry were in attendance. Also there was Nicky Chung (member of RC Wonthaggi), who will be familiar to Club members as was Sandringham member and friend of our Club, Bob Richards.

Final day of 2025 Rotary International Convention highlighted current and future Rotary leaders
The 2025 Rotary International Convention in Calgary, Canada, concluded in a spirit of fellowship and rejuvenation. Addressing the event’s closing general session, Rotary International President Stephanie A. Urchick urged members to recognize the power of their relationships.

RI’s new president talks about his top Rotary moments, his goals as president, and his love of olive oil and opera
Francesco Arezzo was sitting with a friend at his district conference when he received a call, asking him to leave the room and join a Zoom meeting with the Rotary International Board of Directors. A few minutes later, Arezzo learned that he’d been chosen as RI president for 2025-26, the third Italian and the first from southern Italy to lead the global membership organization. Since the news hadn’t been officially announced, he couldn’t tell anyone. But soon, he noticed phones coming out all over the room.
Linda O'Brien chaired today's meeting at Aila once again - for our second meeting at this venue during the current school holidays. Another lovely breakfast was enjoyed by all despite the very crisp and cool morning. These informal meetings away from Cilantro are very enjoyable and provide great opportunities to catch up with our club members and chat about anything and everything.
Every day mothers risk their lives giving birth and millions of children die each year from treatable, preventable causes. At least 7 million children under the age of five die each year due to malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. To help reduce this rate, we provide immunizations and antibiotics to babies, improve access to essential medical services, and support trained healthcare providers for mothers and their children. Your Rotary projects ensure sustainability by empowering the local community to take ownership of healthcare training programs. And there is more.....
Linda O'Brien chaired this morning's club meeting at Aila Cafe in Cheltenham - the first club meeting for the new Rotary year 2025 - 2026, and for Grant Perry presiding as President. It was an informal get together since Cilantro is closed for these weeks during school holidays.
Linda commenced the morning with a fun Quiz of selecting the originator of quotes made by famous people - many of which dated back to a much earlier time that was challenging for some. Nevertheless, yours truly won the prize - a lovely bottle of pinot noir from Tassie.
President Grant hoped everyone enjoyed their time at Changeover on Saturday. He thanked Ron for being Master of Ceremonies, Linda for organising the event and the wonderful decorations, PDG Ian for the slideshow that was on display throughout the evening, and the helpers who assisted during the evening.
At the Club's recent Changeover evening a number of members were awarded Paul Harris Fellows in recognition of their service to the Club and Rotary International. For newer members, here is an explanation, (same as that given on Saturday evening).
A PAUL HARRIS FELLOW is a RECOGNITION that was introduced in 1957 in honour of Paul Harris who founded Rotary in 1905.
It was established to express appreciation for a contribution to the humanitarian and educational programs of the Rotary Foundation.
The Rotary International theme for the 2025-26 Rotary year is "Unite for Good". This theme emphasizes using human connection to create positive change and encourage unity in a world that can be divided. It aligns with Rotary's Action Plan and encourages members to collaborate on service projects and build global impact by uniting people of all backgrounds.
One of the most important things we can do to tell our Rotary stories in an effective, compelling way is to make sure we all use consistent and unified messaging. You can use the president's message for 2025-26, Unite for Good, to inspire members, participants, and the public with an idea that aligns with our Action Plan and calls on us to work together. Using the presidential message in your club and district communications helps to convey Rotary’s global impact and create stronger recognition of Rotary’s name in our communities and with potential service partners. It can help people understand who we are and what we do and might even inspire them to join us.

Note from the Editor re Images and Events
A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is far superior.
Would any member like to take responsibility for the updating of the Club's Event Calendar? I have created a page of instructions here so it is very easy to take over.
