Message from our President - Ron's Ramblings

An enjoyable evening was had by all who attended our last meeting at the Cheltenham RSL on Wednesday night, very informal and good conversation.
This week we are back at Cilantro , and we will have the pleasure from hearing from the Mayor of City of Kingston, Cr Hadi Saab. Hadi is one of the new breed of young Mayors now serving in municipalities around Melbourne.
Last week at The Deck we conducted an unscheduled ‘forum’ around the proposed pilot  regionalisation project. It is obvious that there is very limited understanding  about the pilot project and few members have taken the opportunity to follow the on-line discussions or comment on the proposed make up of clubs that we should be grouped with. The five questions I highlighted last week for consideration are quite different from those that Karin has kindly listed in a document/questionnaire.  I will circulate this separately and  you are invited to make comments. The deadline for comments is October 18th,  as we  have to collate these answers and  respond by October 29th.
Our guest speaker for next week is Neil Soullier from the Blue Ribbon Foundation who will talk to us about the use of ‘service dogs’ as companions for police officers suffering from PTSD.
For those who have volunteered for ‘The Big Serve’ tennis tournament there has been a couple of minor changes from the organisers and the one that affects us most is that the lunch is proposed to be available from 12.00pm until 3.00pm and there will be a charge for all who partake. More later as we get closer to the event.

Yours in Rotary  ‘Create Hope in The World.’
President Ron

Market Report October 1 2023

Team members: Grant Perry, Ron Brownlees and Bruce from RC Moorabbin
Other helpers and visitors: Charles Rener. Cars in queue: 0
Pedestrian count  1170
Market Report: Warm early on, but also windy. The wind was gusty throughout the morning, which caused rack to blow over and objects to blow away. The apparent temperature also dropped. ‘Voice’ campaigners were at the market and were told not to block the entrance and there were complaints about their aggressive behavior. Pedestrian traffic was fairly consistent after about 9:30. Quite a good TB)
Leader, Grant Perry
Note from the Editor re Images and Events
A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is preferred.
Would any member like to take responsibility for the updating of the Club's Event Calendar? I have created a page of instructions here so it is very easy to take over.
Thank you, Ian Ballantine
