Message from our President
“Serve to Change Lives”
REMINDER:
This week’s club meeting is an evening meeting, commencing at 7.30 pm. We look forward to welcoming Emma Gierschick OAM, as our guest speaker. Emma is well versed to talk on “The effects that family violence has on the mental health of women and children".
Shortly, the results of our club survey will be sent to all members, both some analogies and the raw data for everyone’s information. Following that, on the 27th of October, we will have a club forum directed to all members asking for input towards growing our club. For us to be effective every member needs to feel free to participate in the discussion and evolving ideas.
So, in talking about membership let's go back to the core values of Rotary. Service, Integrity, Leadership, Diversity, and Fellowship
I am first and foremost a Rotarian – not just a club person.
So, a Rotary Club’s mission should therefore be to provide individuals the opportunity to live as a Rotarian.
Do we agree with this as a statement? If so, how effective are we at doing this??
What can our club add to its processes that will engage or at least provide every member the opportunity of service???
I look forward to addressing these points and more at this evening's meeting in October.
On a more important note, congratulations to all Melbourne Demons supporters, a great win on Saturday, and a wonderful demonstration of what teamwork and looking out for each other can achieve.
To Melbourne Storm supporters’ commiserations, don’t forget your team was beaten by a group seeking revenge for their grand final loss last year!!!
Hang in there everyone. Please take care of yourself, stay safe and stay connected to each other.
Best wishes,
Regards and all the best,
Helen Nodrum

Rotary joined its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) to mark the first anniversary of a historic public health milestone: the World Health Organization’s African region being certified free of wild polio.
The meeting was held on Zoom. Twenty three members participated and there were two apologies. Five members from the R C of Monash joined our meeting. The chair was Linda O’Brien and the guest speaker was Kevin Bailey.
President Helen welcomed members, the guest speaker and visiting members from the R C of Monash. The visiting Rotarians from Monash wanted to experience what a breakfast club is like. Zeki, from the club explained that they were once a breakfast club but changed to an evening club some years ago but are considering reverting back to being breakfast club.
Sunday afternoon Jo was joined by Margie Lucas and several observers in a special cooking session in which Jo prepared what, at least looks like, a delicious orange cake.
The meeting was held via Zoom. 25 members participated and there were two visitors ( Sossi and Tony from Cilantro). The chair was Greg O’Shea and the guest speaker was Trish Reynolds formerly with the Australian Federal Police. Greg welcomed members, guests and guest speaker. He then introduced Trish Reynolds who gave us an insight into the life in the Australian Federal Police. (AFP).
In view of the fact that Zoom will continue to be with us for some time, I thought it timely that I remind members of some principles of Zoom etiquette. Like in any meeting, it's about respect and simple good manners.
I have endevoured to list some of the more common ones here and ask that members try to observe them.
As a rule, please don't assume that because it's a Zoom meeting that your behaviour should be any different than if you were meeting in person.
In a meeting, participants who wish to address the meeting or ask a question, please use the “Raise Hand” function. Remember to lower it after you have had your turn.
