Message from our President
From the Desk of President Margaret
The year is drawing to a close and what a year it has been. War in the Ukraine, floods in some parts of Australia, earthquakes and landslides in other parts of the world, the death of Queen Elizabeth the Second and the Covid pandemic still not settled. We should count our blessings that we have been relatively distant from some of these major events.
Rotary has done, and continues, to make a difference in humanitarian acts in many of these areas. Let us take stock of what Rotary has done. DG Ken Miller has disseminated information on ways that Rotary District 9810 can assist. This will be discussed at the board level and then shared with members, so watch this space.
On another tangent, RCBMC will be winding up its activities for 2022 and having a recess till January 18th 2023. The last morning meeting for 2022 will be held on 7th December at Flight Deck in Moorabbin Airport. Please note that the meeting commences at 7.30 am, (Not 7 am as noted elsewhere.) Paul Ferguson has arranged for members to take a tour of the Air Museum at the conclusion of the meeting.
The end of year breakup and meeting will be held at Packer Park. Information about this meeting can be found in the Bulletin. Have a happy holiday. Regular morning meetings will recommence on January 18th.

Would anyone like to join me one Friday morning for a dip in the bay with the Sandy Icebergers?
The Sandy Icebergers meet three mornings a week on the beach below the Sandringham Rotunda around 6.45am.
The group is all about enjoying the refreshing dip, meeting others, enjoying the beautiful scenery and chatting as we bob up and down in the water. We stay for about half an hour and sometimes go for a coffee afterwards.
It’s a very friendly group of all ages and welcoming to all. Sometimes it’s a small group and other days it’s twenty people and some bring goggles and swim to the pole further out.
If you would like to come along please let me know so I can look out for you.

Tim L was chairperson for this week’s club meeting which was an evening meeting at Cilantro, with a full house of club members, partners and many guests. Partners included Asia, Angie, Leonie, Julie, Helen, Sarah, Angela and Gary. Friends and guests included Russell and Ian (friends of Neville), Chris (Pres of Beaumaris R.C.), Greg and Cathy Every (Beaumaris R.C.), Cassie and Rosemary (Helen’s family from Canberra), Michaela (friend of Julie Reid), a guest of Sue Loeliger, Jonas, and Jenny Le Marshall. My apologies if anyone has been missed.
Larry performed Invocation and Tony performed the Loyal Toast.
Our Club has undertaken a project to "rescue" push bikes from the now closed Camelot Traffic School in East Bentleigh and deliver them to the good people of Rochester, Victoria.
Larry was our chairperson for today’s club meeting and AGM at Cilantro. Alan performed the invocation and Tim L performed the loyal toast. Charles and Karin joined the meeting via Zoom.
After overcoming some minor issues, we were able to attend the 2022 Bentleigh Festival on Sunday 20th November. People started arriving before 10.00am and we were set up around 10.30am. Thanks to Jo Impey and Helen Nodrum for assisting in taking the Rotary marquee down Centre Road to just outside Aldi. The weather was very pleasant until the first of several rain showers swept in from the west. Nothing seemed to deter the thousands of attendees from enjoying themselves at the multiple food outlets and entertainment/amusement attractions. Obviously, the fact that this was the first Festival since 2019 meant that everyone was keen to be there. Plenty of dry spells during the day meant that the marquee was able to dry out before we packed it away.
Rotary Bentleigh Sunday Market chair, Ron Brownlees recently organised some great advertising for the market.
Two digital signs were set up on the corner Nepean Highway and South Rd Moorabbin , outbound. And another on the corner North and Tucker Rds Ormond-inbound.
They were displayed during the week of November 7th to 13th.
After discovering new perspectives and being inspired by new ideas at the 2022 Rotary International Convention, attendees and virtual participants are looking ahead to next year's gathering in Melbourne, the sparkling second city of Australia.

Market Report: Fabulous sunny day close to Christmas that finally yielded a sold out market. Happy stall holders and pedestrian flow, due mainly to a great team effort from rotarians today. Animal welfare group have charity stall booking for 18th dec (but not next week), disappointing not to have busker here this week. Tables count down from 31 to 30, broken table located and removed. Stall 48 still to pay for December. Epilepsy charity stall at this weeks market. Enclosed pic of “old wise men’s club”
