Message from our President

Last Friday evening, a wet and miserable night to be out driving to Mulgrave, Ron, Linda, Helen, and I attended the last Presidents meeting for this Rotary Year.
We were seated in our Cluster group, so Ron and I sat on one table, Helen on another and Linda another with DGE Ian on yet another as we listened to reports from different District Committees led by DG Ken.
Many topics were covered in a short time frame, while enjoying dinner and getting to know other Rotarians.
It was mentioned that in our District while several Clubs are doing well, a lot are not, with as little as 10 members. These clubs are not only having trouble attracting new members they are also having difficulty it finding a President, having to recycle.
Growing membership is crucial to the survival of our Club as we will never attract new members if we allow the membership to drop.  We all want to belong to a club that is thriving, we all want to belong to the best, potential new members want the same.
We are now seen as a vibrant, welcoming club with excellent speakers and successful fund-raising source with the Sunday Market. We are attractive to potential members; this is our opportunity to stop the slide as our members age and retire from Rotary.
Bringing in new members is a team effort; it is the whole Club’s responsibility not just the membership committee.
Membership needs a dedicated meeting; it’s importance would only be diminished if not given time.
PDG Malcolm Chiverton, District Membership will be coming to speak with us on June 14th Breakfast.
We need to be proactive, NOW
Come prepared to ask questions and be inspired to share the Rotary message,

Yours in Rotary,
Glenda

GUEST SPEAKER – PDG Dr Daryl Moran
The last time PDG Daryl visited our club was in the capacity as DG  of D9810,  however, today he came to talk about his book Empire’s Noble Son which was published in 2019 and tells of the little known story of a very brave Australian soldier during WW1, 2nd Lt Lyle Buntine MC, who was a member of the British Royal Flying Corp.   David’s talk portrayed the life and times, and the essence of what was considered important in Australia during the early 20th Century where reverence was held for “God, King and Country”.    Lyle Buntine was born Walter Horace ‘Lyle’ Buntine and attended Caulfield grammar 1903 – 1913 when it was a private school owned by his father.
