Message from our President - Tim's Tattles .
Last wednesday morning unfortunately Cilantro was closed and when I arrived a host of Rotarians were waiting out the front. We readily adapted and went down to Onyx in Reserve rd where we were well received by Frank. The ability to adapt as I discussed with Jules is the key ingredient in Darwin's evolutionary survival of the fittest and here we were a prime example of this. The audio facilities at Onyx are not good and despite this Neville was able to read out the Ode to Anzac which was very well received.
At 10.30 Friday I went to the Anzac ceremony in Jasper Rd Bentleigh which was an outstanding success . We had the mayor of Glen Eira , the mp for Bentleigh Nick Staikos , Zoe Daniel the MHR and Tim Willson the opposition candidate for Golstein.
The choir from Mckinnon secondary college sang "Australia we are one" with an Anzac theme which was brilliant .
There were children there from all nations which makes up our tremendous country . In particular the 4 flag bearers of all different nations and sexes. I was so proud .
This wednesday we are back at Cilantro where there will be reports from the board members.

REGISTRATION FOR MEETINGS All meetings will now utilise the Registration facility. asking members to register their attendance, or non-attendance, at Club meetings. Note that it is equally important that guests are registered as well.
Members can either register as soon as the event appears in the calendar or respond to the invitation(s) via email to members in the week prior to the meeting. This email will contain a direct link to the event registration page. Here, we ask that you either accept or decline the invitation. You will also have the opportunity to add any guests. Once registered for the event, you will no longer receive an email for that event.
If you choose not to register either your intention to attend or not, it will be assumed you are not attending.

District Changeover - July 12, 2025 (Details to follow)
Bula to everyone in Australia. This is a brief report from the members of our Club currently in Fiji visiting some projects which have received the Club's support over the years.
The purpose of our trip has been to visit two schools which we have supported and also the local hospital in Savu Savu to see how we can help them. In addition, when we return to Nadi member Paul Ferguson has arranged a visit to the local hospital which will be hosting a future Interplast visit. Refer earlier story on Interplast here.

Well our meeting at Cilantro this morning failed to take place as Holmsglen elected to remain closed fdor this week. I take full responsibility as it had totally slipped my mind that this was going to happen. My apologies to all.
We ended up transferring to Onyx in Reserve Road which didn't seem to worry too many. President Tim reminded members of the impending ANZAC day and acalled upon Neville Kruss who recited the Ode of Remembrance. Neville is a "never misses" participant in ANZAC day. My apologies to Bert who was all set to give his "Member behind the Badge" this morning. We'll fit him in again in June so that's something we can look forward to.

Rotary’s legislative body meets every three years to vote on proposals to move the organization forward

Representatives from Rotary districts around the world gathered for the 2025 Council on Legislation, voting after much debate to approve a dues increase and also deciding to allow clubs to be chartered with fewer members.
The Council, held 13-17 April in Chicago, Illinois, USA, is where Rotary members meet every three years to discuss and vote on proposals to move the organization forward.
By far the most-debated items this session were the dues increase, designed to keep up with rising costs, and a proposal to make annual district conferences optional.
Rotary International President Stephanie A. Urchick set the tone for the Council on the opening day, stressing the cross-cultural and cooperative nature of Rotary.

Members protect endangered habitats, plant trees, and clean up plastic waste

Fifty-five years ago, the first Earth Day launched a wave of environmental action in the United States. Other countries soon began observing Earth Day as well. Celebrated on 22 April this year, Earth Day mobilizes people around the world to help preserve our planet.
Rotary added the environment as an official area of focus for our service efforts in 2020, but Rotary and Rotaract members have carried out environmental projects for decades. Rotary members around the world continue to find innovative solutions and take action.
Our club members had a very enjoyable evening for this week's club meeting at the Sandringham Yacht Club. Members who arrived a little earlier had the advantage of the beautiful views across the bay from the deck with a pre dinner drink in hand before darkness descended. This was a social evening with no formalities, and provided the ideal setting for member fellowship, whilst enjoying a lovely meal. We saw the return of Kevin Egan from his recent trip to China, and Helen Nodrum and Marg Lucas who have been away, and lovely to see Kirsten Oakley. Thank you Ian for hosting the evening for our club members - it was much appreciated by all who attended.

Sir Emeka Offor commits US$5 million to Rotary’s maternal and child health program in Nigeria
EVANSTON, Ill., USA (10 Apr. 2025) — Nigerian Rotary member and philanthropist Sir Emeka Offor has committed US$5 million through the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) to The Rotary Foundation to expand and strengthen its initiative aimed at reducing maternal and neonatal mortality in high-need areas of Nigeria.
“Helping mothers and babies survive and thrive is among the greatest investments we can make in Nigeria’s future,” said Sir Emeka Offor, founder of the SEOF and a member of the Rotary Club of Oraifite, District 9142, Nigeria. “We have seen a unique opportunity to build upon a Rotary-led program to further turn the tide on maternal and child mortality by working together. This partnership marks a powerful step forward for the health and wellbeing of families across Nigeria.”
President Tim chaired this week's very informal club breakfast meeting at Aila Cafe in Highett - during this first week of school holidays. It was a lovely breakfast enjoyed by all who attended that included guests Bronwyn, Gary, and Jules. Thank you Linda for arranging the booking, and tending to the registration and breakfast orders. As always, everything went very smoothly.

Waiting in queue: 1. O Night parkers : 1 Pedestrian count 1095 Market Report: Overall weather ok - mild with occasional showers. Overnight parker on 88 blocked 4 mini stalls. Stalls were accommodated elsewhere. Holland Foundation team unable to attend - just as well as we only hired out 4 items! Thanks to all team members, a pleasure working alongside you.
The market started slowly with a cool quiet morning. David the musician turned up to entertain the shoppers. By mid morning the numbers increased. A number of regular stall holders on holidays. Zoe Daniel Teal Party representatives out the front of the market and well behaved.

A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is far superior.
Would any member like to take responsibility for the updating of the Club's Event Calendar? I have created a page of instructions here so it is very easy to take over.
