Message from our President

Footy finals are underway and the Spring Racing Carnival is just around the corner. Let’s get a couple of tipping pools underway, I know we have a couple of members who fancy the fillies and of course plenty of us are football tragics.
I am well aware that we are all growing tired of all that has been imposed on us throughout 2020 but we must endure, we’ve come this far.
I thought this week rather than talk all things Rotary let’s simply get a couple of things going amongst ourselves. I’ll be calling for volunteers on Wednesday and I’m already doing some word associations,
eg; horses=Ryan/O’Brien  Footy = Green /Nodrum

All the best,
Geoff Gledhill
Zoom Meeting Sept 30 2020 Malvern Travel
What fun! How much fun was it on Wednesday September 31th evening, a glass or two of wine, 2 very enthusiastic and passionate Guest Speakers and many members with apologies from Peter L and John L. and appearances from Leonie R and Angie G. Welcome Terry! We have not seen Terry for a while as she has to work long hours from home and lives a long way from us. Pres. Geoff welcomed us all including Vishal, Angie and Leonie and Karin who at last has a camera and therefore can be seen.

StKilda Mums Blankets
Club Community Project for September - Donations of single bed and cot size blankets urgently required for St Kilda Mums. St Kilda Mums always need items for babies and up to primary school age children but even more so during the Covid Pandemic. Please ask your families and friends to check if they have bedding for cots and single beds that can be donated.     All items should be laundered and in near new condition.

A Memory of my Childhood
It was an event eagerly looked forward to by both my father and myself, even my mother looked forward to it not that she went but it meant time to herself while we were out of the house. My father went as a boy with his brother and I went every year  with my father until we shifted from Albert Park to Elwood in the mid 60’s.... The Old Buffers Carnival.... It seemed to be very much a local event, while one was there to visit the events and side shows we did spend as much time chatting and catching up with people.

Dilmah Tea Evening
7:30 pm Wednesday 23rd September! There was great excitement even though we were on Zoom and we could feel it! Geoff Gartly was our host and welcomed our many guests, including a number of members from other District 9810 Clubs. He had been very fortunate to have Dilhan Fernando younger son of Merill Fernando Founder of Dilmah Tea, agree to talk to us from Sri Lanka. Dilhan explained that he was a Rotarian, his club being Colombo Metropolitan and that a former RI President was running his office.

Zoom Chairperson
As with any meeting, a Zoom meeting has a chairperson. In Zoom language he or she is called the “host”. He or she can, among other things, mute everyone. It is important that we respect this. He does this for a reason. It is to ensure that the current speaker is not interrupted and can remain in the “speaker role” as determined by Zoom.
