Message from our President

“Serve to Change Lives”
How good is it now that we can be out and about doing what Rotarians do best, community work?
Our club was happy to accept an invitation from Glen Eira Police to assist in their “Safe Plate Day” held on Saturday last at the town hall. We partnered with other community groups, SES, fire brigade, and neighborhood watch. As you will see from the photo, along with applying anti-theft screws to car number plates we had an information table and made some very valuable contacts on the day.
Our club was well represented, with stronger numbers than other participant groups and so thanks go to Terry Kane, Linda O’Brien, Peter O’Brien, Margaret Mason, Grant Perry, Ron Brownlees, Alan Kempton, Karin Soster, and Gary Ramage along with yours truly for assisting on the day. Story and pics here.
100 Christmas hampers have now been shopped, packed into bags, and most delivered to our community partner groups. On Monday last Margaret Mason and I dropped off 40 hampers to Glen Eira Community Services located in Glenhuntly Road, Glenhuntly. They were most appreciative as calls from those in need in the community have already begun.
John Mason will write up a report for the District newsletter and R.I. magazine about this club project. Look on our website for a full report and some photos - here.
Acknowledgment to the following members who participated in this project. Thanks to Margaret Mason, John Mason Linda O’Brien, Peter O’Brien, Margaret Lucas, Karin Soster, Gary Ramage, and yours truly.
Faye Weeks and I joined in on Saturday last to the National Youth Science Forum information day for this next year’s participants. The online forum was run by Malcolm Chiverton.
Roughly 20 students joined. It was refreshing to witness the enthusiasm of our younger generation for the science-led fields and their willingness to be involved and gain insight into opportunities out there for after-school life. Both Faye and I were happy to show our club’s support for this Rotary-led program and for the students who have approached our club.
We are sponsoring two students to NYSF this coming January and I will look forward to both Tilde and Monique visiting our club with their parents early on next year to report back to us on the adventure.
A date for your calendars.
The club will hold an end-of-year celebration/fellowship get-together on SATURDAY 11TH DECEMBER 2PM TO 6PM. At the home of Ron and Marilyn Brownlees. The club will cater the food, members, partners, and guests will just need to bring BYO drinks.
Our last meeting for this year will be on 15th December.

With every best wish
Helen Nodrum

Our club was happy to accept an invitation from Glen Eira Police to assist in their “Safe Plate Day” held on Saturday last 20th November at the Glen Eira Town Hall carpark area.
We partnered with other community groups, State Emergency Service (SES), fire brigade, and neighborhood watch, not to mention our local law officers. The SES truck, a fire brigade truck, and the very impressive police pursuit vehicles were there on the day – a definite drawcard for the families and children to see over these impressive vehicles. Last but not least thankfully “the coffee cart”.

Taken from the rotary.org website here
Vanessa Nakate, a 24-year-old climate activist from Uganda, made international headlines after the World Economic Forum’s 2020 meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
