Message from our President

Last Wednesday evening Warren and I together with Ian, Margaret and Helen attended the final of the Bayspeak competition. There were twelve participants with a winner in the Junior section and a winner in the Senior section. All participants spoke for a maximum of 6 minutes, with adjudicators from Bayside Toast masters. Another evening listening to impressive young people from different schools presenting on a topic of their choice. The winner of the senior section was from Brighton Secondary College and from the junior section, Shelford Girls School. Once again a thoroughly enjoyable evening. (Story and pics here)
A lovely sunny but cold day at the market for first timers, Kellie Carruthers and our RYLA student Henrietta. There was lots of laughter together with some money spent supporting our stall holders by Henrietta and myself. Helen our intrepid leader was as efficient as ever and all went well. Henrietta enjoyed the experience so much she has volunteered to come back!! (see below for pics from the Market - Ed)
This week our speaker is Malcolm Shiverton who will be District Membership Chair for 2023-24.
I am delighted to have Malcolm come prior to the beginning of his year to share his thoughts on how to attract members and to retain members.
Increasing and retaining membership is of major concern for the majority of Rotary Clubs not just ours so any assistance or hints we can learn from Malcolm will be beneficial for our future. We need every member to be prepared to make this a priority in the coming Rotary year, Ron and Ian’s year. We want to be a standout in the District, to share Rotary, to be persistent, and constant in our message about the wonderful work Rotarians do, we need to just ask the question “ would you like to come to a meeting?”
Please share our club with others because we do it well, we are a welcoming, active club with so much to offer.
I was informed today that Rotarians, a John Dodd, Peter Lewis and Ian Riseley were awarded OAMS.  This is an amazing achievement; they so deserve our congratulations!
Yours in Rotary,
Glenda

Note from the Editor re Images and Events
A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is preferred.
Would any member like to take responsibility for the updating of the Club's Event Calendar? I have created a page of instructions here so it is very easy to take over.
Thank you, Ian Ballantine
