Message from our President
From the Desk of President Margaret
Members who did not attend or zoom into last Wednesday’s meeting missed out on an amazing presentation. Our very own Samantha Langridge spoke about the member behind the badge. Samantha’s experiences while growing up, her work choices and the many positions she held in professional organisations were certainly very impressive and challenging.
In addition, not many of us were fortunate enough to spend some of our growing up years in a country property which was used as a film set for many movies.
Then there is the variety of careers which Samantha had before she arrived at working in a professions she now finds both challenging and satisfying. Samantha’s life till now is amazing and an inspiration. The club is indeed fortunate to have a member of that calibre. Thanks must go to Jo Impey for introducing Samantha to RCBMC.
The club will be holding the end of year “break-up” function at Packer Park in Murrumbeena on Sunday 11 December. This also doubles up as our last meeting for the year as Cilantro is closed for renovations and we are not able to hold a meeting on 14 December. Food for the picnic will be provided but we will need numbers for catering purposes. Please let Samantha know your intentions.
President Margaret Mason
Speaker info this Week: No speaker this week as it is our Annual General Meeting
After overcoming some minor issues, we were able to attend the 2022 Bentleigh Festival on Sunday 20th November. People started arriving before 10.00am and we were set up around 10.30am. Thanks to Jo Impey and Helen Nodrum for assisting in taking the Rotary marquee down Centre Road to just outside Aldi. The weather was very pleasant until the first of several rain showers swept in from the west. Nothing seemed to deter the thousands of attendees from enjoying themselves at the multiple food outlets and entertainment/amusement attractions. Obviously, the fact that this was the first Festival since 2019 meant that everyone was keen to be there. Plenty of dry spells during the day meant that the marquee was able to dry out before we packed it away.
President Margaret outlined the program for the rest of 2022.
Wednesday 23 November – Club AGM
Wednesday 30 November – will be an evening meeting at Cilantro commencing 6.30pm. This is a fellowship meeting and partners and friends are welcome. - we have a special speaker in John Le Marshall who is an eminent meteorologist and has been involved in NASA . An invitation has been sent to all clubs in the District via the Districts Highlights. Please RSVP to Greg O'Shea for catering purposes.
Wednesday 7 December - will be at Flight Deck in Moorabbin airport. Meeting will commence at 7.30am instead of 7am. After the meeting. members are invited to tour the museum.
Sunday 11 December - The end of year get-together will be at Packer Park in Murrumbeena. This will be our last meeting for 2022. Santa Claus will visit us at the picnic so children are most welcome.
Greg was chairperson for today’s club meeting at Cilantro. Ron performed invocation and Tony performed the loyal toast. John read the poem by John McCrae called " In Flanders Field" to commemorate Remembrance Day. Glenda and Karin joined the meeting via Zoom. A buffet breakfast was catered by Holmesglen Certificate IV students as part of their Certificate IV Commercial Cookery course.
After discovering new perspectives and being inspired by new ideas at the 2022 Rotary International Convention, attendees and virtual participants are looking ahead to next year's gathering in Melbourne, the sparkling second city of Australia.

Market Report: arrived to find lots of trucks and amusement rides parked in the car park despite assurances this would not happen and unfortunately one had a trailer lock fitted and they had lost the key. All sorted after a while with a few disgruntled stallholders relocated. Weather was fine and
sunny for most of the morning but a bit windy. With the supposed inclement weather we had about 20 empty stalls.Helen made some great cakes for morning tea.
