Message from our President - Ron's Ramblings

It was good to hear our speaker at last weeks meeting , Kathy Langley, talk about Huntingtons Disease and its’ complex characteristics and diagnosis from a non- medical persons viewpoint and the effects it can have on so many people and their  families. Our speaker this week will be ‘Member behind the Badge’ Barry Oliver.
It was also good to welcome two guests last week, Kevin Egan and Kevin Siergersma
Last Friday I attended the quarterly DG’s meeting along with Linda and Helen and was surprised to learn that our community grouping of clubs under the regionalisation proposal is – BMC, Beaumaris, Chelsea, Frankston, Frankston North, Frankston Sunrise, Hampton, Moorabbin, Mordialloc, Sandringham, and Peninsula 2.0.     Not quite the selections we submitted and a few surprises.
We also saw a presentation from Bayswater Rotary club on a project to install a water bore, storage tower, solar power for pumping, and distribution to the small village. This will provide a significant to not only the families and children but also the crops and livestock need for their ongoing survival. When you consider the budgeted cost of such an overseas project of $70,000 this is not and expensive project.  They are seeking financial support, perhaps one for the International committee to consider.
One of the reasons we have not had an evening social meeting night this year is that Cilantro has a very busy calendar to start the year and the next couple of months with our conference, Easter, and school holidays present some challenges. The social committee is investigating some alternative options.
As mentioned last week we have been in discussion with Coles senior management about the actions of the local store manager and I again ask that if approached, please do not engage or enter into discussion just let me know. You will all have seen the response from the State Manager.
Yours in Rotary  ‘Create Hope in The World.’
President Ron

Social afternoon at the O'Briens
Once again members Linda and Peter O'Brien generously opened their home to host a wonderful afternoon.
Whilst it got a little warm, we all survived under the shade of the trees in the lovely garden.
There were well over 30 present including a few friends of Rotary.
Our thanks to Linda and Peter - a great afternoon of fellowship.

Note from the Editor re Images and Events
A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is preferred.
Would any member like to take responsibility for the updating of the Club's Event Calendar? I have created a page of instructions here so it is very easy to take over.
Thank you, Ian Ballantine
