Our speaker last week was Rotarian Murray Wilson, a member of the Rotary Club of Rowville-Lysterfield. Murray gave a very interesting presentation on the Victorian bail system, including the new bail laws. One thing that I didn’t know, is that bail justices are volunteers and that there is a course and examination system to become one. Once again there were plenty of questions, which is a good indication of how interesting the talk was.

This week we will be voting on the donation of $9,129 to South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault (SECASA), this was passed by the board at the last board meeting, but needs to be voted on at a general club meeting.

From Kingston Council I have received a reminder about information sessions regarding scams.
These sessions will be presented by Crime Stoppers and Victoria Police and will cover how to spot scams, recent trends, and what to do if you’re targeted. The sessions are at Access Care, City of Kingston, 34 Brindisi Street, Mentone, on:
• Tuesday 16 June, 11am – 12pm
• Tuesday 11 August, 11am - 12pm

The last general meeting for this Rotary year will be on the 24th of June, I would like to remind committee chairs about preparing a short presentation to be delivered at the meeting. If you are unable to attend, please ask a committee member to present it.

This week’s speaker will be Geoff Gartly with a presentation on new Tax and Capital Gains Tax Rules.

Market Report: Wet on the ground to start but rain held off to clear up. Cold and clear/sunny for the morning.
A calm market with a few enquiries for future stalls. Helen from Holland Foundation visited to seek feedback on the Volunteers. We were entertained by our local singer/guitarist. There was a flow of customers into the market however slower generally for most of the morning.

Important message to Market Leaders: New Computer
The iPad is NO LONGER. Entry of Market Report and Try Booking access is now done via new computer in the office. The procedure for its use is in the office.

Several community members arrived at a Rotary event in Hobart on 1 April after hearing a radio interview that morning. This was a clear sign that a falls prevention campaign was already doing more than raising awareness. It was changing behaviour.

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS
- President Grant reminded club members of the board's approval of a donation to SECASA which will be voted on by members at next week's club meeting on Wednesday 17/6.
- Ian Ballantine informed club members Helen Parker will run in the Melbourne Half Marathon on Sunday 19 July and is raising funds for Interplast. Ian has placed an article on the club website with a link to the donation page for club members wishing to support her efforts.

From humble beginnings in a corrugated iron shack to a thriving school of 320 students, Tender Foot Self Help School stands as a powerful testament to sustained Rotary partnerships transforming lives through education, dignity and opportunity.

In 1996, Tender Foot Self Help School began with eight street children in a corrugated iron shack and one determined teacher, Esther Wamai, who refused to look away.

Rotary International maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy against all forms of harassment, bullying, and abuse. The policy mandates that all club members and event participants have the right to a safe, welcoming environment free from unwelcome physical contact, advances, or verbal/physical conduct that denigrates or creates an intimidating atmosphere.

Toys Not Tears

A stock of toys is helping children during difficult times in their lives.

The Greenmeadows Rotary Community Group, located on the eastern coast of North Island New Zealand, is collaborating with Napier Police for a pilot program at the local Family Harm Unit (FHU).

The program aims to help de-escalate the collateral stress experienced by tamariki (children) as family harm events are managed, in their homes, by specialist officers.

The toys provide a focus for affected children during tense life events while enhancing children’s views of police as being caring considerate humans.

A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is far superior.
