Message from our President
“Serve to Change Lives”
Congratulations to our club are in order as we have just received the 2021 ShelterBox Bronze Champion award. We are the only club in district 9810 that has provided support over the last 3 years to ensure families were sheltered after a disaster. In all, 74 Rotary clubs around Australia received this recognition with all but 8 in the Bronze award listing.
What is ShelterBox
Rotary partners with ShelterBox to help devastated communities following natural disasters.
The teams work with disaster-hit families around the world offering emergency shelter and other essential items.
The signature green boxes feature Rotary’s logo and the contents of the boxes are adapted to fit the specific emergency. Common inclusions are family-sized tents, solar lights, water storage, thermal blankets, and cooking equipment.
I have registered to attend the 2021 ShelterBox Champion Awards virtual ceremony, which will be held Tuesday 5th October at 7 pm, if other members of our club would like to join, please let me know and I will extend our registration with the organisers.
I received communication from Kevin Hall and Ian Donald, lead members for the district Centurion program. Our club currently has seven members who donate on a yearly basis to this Rotary initiative. This year’s giving program exceeded their expectations with $51,389.00 raised through 331 centurion donors What is the Centurion program?
The Centurion Programme is for all Rotarians to enable regular contributions to the Rotary Foundation. $100 (AUD) is donated annually and is tax-deductible. Contributions can count towards a Paul Harris Fellow.
I commend this program to members who may be interested in participating.
Once again thanks go to Geoff Gartly and Ron Brownlees for a most interesting “AFL trivia night” conducted virtually on Thursday last. Lots of laughter, along with the oldies reminiscing about their glory days on the footy field – just a wonderful distraction and a bit of fun.
Stay Sane, Stay Healthy, and Stay Connected.
Regards and all the best,
Helen Nodrum

Members Geoff Gartly and Ron Brownlees put in a lot of work to run a really fun evening of a Footy Trivia quiz. John and Julie Kempton, Pres Helen Nodrum, Roy Kaplan, Margie Lucas, Tony and Leonie Ryan, larry Green, Jo Impey, Peter and Linda O'Brien and Ian Ballantine joined in the fun.

In view of the fact that Zoom will continue to be with us for some time, I thought it timely that I remind members of some principles of Zoom etiquette. Like in any meeting, it's about respect and simple good manners.
I have endevoured to list some of the more common ones here and ask that members try to observe them.
As a rule, please don't assume that because it's a Zoom meeting that your behaviour should be any different than if you were meeting in person.
The meeting was held on zoom. The chair was Ian Ballantine and the speaker was our member Paul Ferguson. Paul went as an observer when the Interplast Team went to Laos in February 2020.
When my father was around 2 years of age he suffered a nasty burn to is leg when caustic soda got down his sock, it was some time before the burn was discovered but when its was it was more than nasty and doctors had started talking about amputation as there wasn’t enough skin in the area for it to heal. .....
In a meeting, participants who wish to address the meeting or ask a question, please use the “Raise Hand” function. Remember to lower it after you have had your turn.

I went into the confessional box after many years of being away from the Catholic Church. Inside I found a fully equipped bar with Guinness on tap. On one wall, there was a row of decanters with fine Irish whiskey and Waterford crystal glasses. On the other wall was a dazzling array of the finest cigars and chocolates. When the Priest came in, I said to him, “Father, forgive me, for it's been a very long time since I've been to confession, but I must first admit that the confessional box is much more inviting than it used to be.” The Priest replied, ”You moron! You're on my side.
