Message from our District Governor
One of the biggest events our club has ever been involved in, the 2024 Rotary District 9810 Conference in Warrnambool, is over. And what a success it was.
From the warm welcome and support of Warrnambool Council, to the leadership of DG Ian Ballantine and Committee chair Wil Cornelissen, our team of Linda O’Brien - Saturday night Gala Dinner at the racecourse, Glenda Stahel and Grant Perry - registrations and front desk, Peter O’Brien- logistics, and myself ensured that our final District Conference, attended by over 300 Rotarians and partners, was an outstanding success. Others we had the pleasure of working with were past DG Bob Richards, Peter Murie, Sue Cornelissen, Don Kerley, Kehela Vandenberg, and Brian Slade.
Great venues, excellent speakers, fantastic food, an entertaining program, and lots of fun and fellowship. It was also a good opportunity to meet and chat with the RIPPR, Haresh Ramchandani. Congratulations and well done to all involved.
Our club and all our members who attended can feel proud of our effort and participation. At our meeting this week we will have a short report on some of the highlights.
Our first meeting after Easter on April 3rd will be at ONYX café restaurant, 328 Reserve Road, Cheltenham, opposite the new Cheltenham cemetery. Please advise if you will NOT be attending.
Yours in Rotary ‘Create Hope in The World.’
President Ron Brownlees

This week's speaker / event
A bit of fellowship again this week. As many members attended Conference this last weekend, we will relax and have a bit of a de-brief.
Please forward any events you want promoted to the Editor.
Well, we had the District Conference this last weekend in Warrnambool.
I am so proud of the contribution of so many of the members of our Club. All of you contributed to the outstanding success of the weekend.
Having attended so many conferences in the past and watched other Clubs help their District Governor I knew how much "in the spotlight" it places the host club.
You all did such a great job. You made me so proud of my Club and I am so very grateful.

Also, David Liao's photos from the Conference are here.
Our club’s legal eagle, Tony Ryan, was our chairperson for today’s club meeting at Cilantro. Jo performed the invocation and toast to Rotary and Australia. Karin joined the meeting via Zoom. President Ron was an apology having flown the coop to see the sights of Norfolk Island.
Peter, one of our Market Chairs ‘extraordinaire’, was our Chairperson for today’s club meeting at Cilantro. Faye performed Invocation and the Toast to Rotary and Australia. Charles and Karin joined the meeting via Zoom.
NEWS FROM OUR SISTER/TWIN CLUBROTARY CLUB OF SAVUSAVU
URATA LOOKOUT CAFÉ In 2023, the Rotary Club of Savusavu in partnership with the mataqali Urata, whose land it is on, opened a lookout cafe above Urata Village. This project was all about economic empowerment of a rural community: up-skilling the local community, giving them a stake in tourism, environmental rehabilitation, establishing a highly attractive tourist stop on the Labasa - Savusavu road.
Team members:Paul, Kellie and Geoff and Lynn, Carlo and Jothie from Moorabbin
Other helpers and visitors: Ron, Larry Charles, Sarah, Warren and pets Cars in queue: 1. Night parkers : 0 Pedestrian count 1319 Market Report:A bracing morning, all stallholders were rugged up! Whilst a lot of the club members were in wonderful Warrnambool sleeping in (perhaps a few with headaches) the market volunteers were hard at it like ptarmigans - bright eyed and fluffy feathered. Pedestrian visitors were a little subdued as an autumn day lived up to its name. Plant vendors had a mixed day.

Note from the Editor re Images and Events
A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is preferred.
Would any member like to take responsibility for the updating of the Club's Event Calendar? I have created a page of instructions here so it is very easy to take over.
Thank you, Ian Ballantine
I remind members that you are responsible for the information contained in the Club's database. This includes, birthdays, phone numbers, addresses etc etc. Even your own photo. You maintain this via this link.
Ian Ballantine
A reminder to members to keep checking the calendar of upcoming events for evening and perhaps, one day, daytime events.
Thank you for being a subscriber to our Weekly Club Bulletin. I try to have it published each week by Tuesday morning.
If you would like to have something included please contact me at editor@rotarybmc.org.au and attach, as separate files, the words and any images (jpg files are fine, minimum width 820 pixels). Please DO NOT send information as pdf files.
Ian Ballantine, Editor.
