Message from our President
District Conference continued to influence attendance at last weeks meeting, March 8th as many members took the opportunity to extend their travel enjoying a slow journey home.
However, those members who were at the meeting competed in a fun, but not easy trivia contest with questions related to International Women’s Day.
Thanks, Greg for taking the time to prepare the questions, over all we did quite well with very little between first and second place, just 1 point.
One question that stumped most of us was the International Women’s Day theme for this year. For those who do not know it is,
"DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,"
" To highlight the role of innovative technology in promoting gender equality and meeting the health and developmental needs of women and girls."
One programme that Rotary is involved in and is addressing this issue in some way is National Youth Science Forum, a Youth and Vocational Programme. Rotary is the Founding Partner of NYSF and today the 18 local Rotary districts across Australia continue to conduct selections for the NYSF Year 12 Program on behalf of the NYSF.
At the program, students have opportunities to:
• participate in tours of science and technology facilities,
• learn about cutting edge research,
• engage with industry partners and research providers,
• learn about university and STEM ((Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) career pathways,
• mix with other like-minded students from all over Australia, and
• network with former NYSF participants to further increase understanding of STEM-related study and career experiences.
This year our club sponsored two young women to attend NYSF, from Cheltenham Secondary College and from Bentleigh Secondary College.
Their teachers reported that both students demonstrated a passion for science and technology. We certainly wish them well in their chosen career path.
The Rotary Clubs of NSW, each year conduct and host “The Inspirational Women’s Awards” where women are recognised for community service across all sectors. Judging focuses on commitment, dedication, perseverance, and proactivity in improving the lives of others.
Is this something we might consider for next year?
Imagine…
Yours in Rotary,
Glenda

Tim Lynch was our chairperson for today’s evening meeting at Cilantro. It was a full house with club members, partners and invited guests who came to listen to Tim Mason, president of the Beachside Gift, and enjoy a wonderful dinner prepared by Cordon Bleu students at Holmesglen and the kitchen team at Cilantro. Sam conducted invocation and Greg performed the loyal toast.
Team members: Larry green, Grant Perry, Jo Impey, Anna Mouradian (shared) and Barbara from Moorabbin.
Other helpers and visitors: Charles Rener and Ron Brownlees Another table needs repair. Some traders asked about sandbags and I told them that thereare not available as the clubneeds them.
Pedestrian count 1100
Market Report: The morning started pitch black which means we are almost through daylight saving. Once sun came up it was overcast and quite mild - cool in fact. Very quiet morning due to long weekend. No problems except for a bird leaving a deposit on one of the money spinners. Float was $170. Not sure if money was added after the paperwork was done. No issue with overnight parked car as stall TB) Leader, Larry Green
