Well we had a very busy morning this week with several speakers. We had a number of guests including our guest speaker, Russell Marnock from the Rotary Club of Emerald. We were also joined by Mentone Girls Secondary College student Charlotte Collins along with her father David. Peter and Helen Brown also joined us from the Rotary Club of Taveuni in FIJI. Helen and Peter were formerly from the Rotary Club of Chelsea. Vishal Mahajan joined us once again.
Grant Perry;s International toast this week was to the Club of Armenia International in the republic of Colombia, District 4281. The Club has only 9 members and it’s President is Luz Marina Bedoya. Colombia has a population of about 50 million and the city of Armenia a population of about 292,000.
We first heard from Charlotte Collins about her experience at the National Youth Science Forum, which the Club sponsored. She spoke very enthusiastically about her experience and the Club should take pride in their support of this fine young lady.
Russlell Marnock took us on a trip to East Timor and the Belola school. He brought us up to date with the way things are progressing over there. Out thanks to Russell for his great presentation.
Peter Brown spoke briefly about a project his club is involved with on the island of Taveuni which involves the establishment of a Home Economics room in the local high school. Our Club is funding the cost of 5 stoves and a fridge for the School.
Geoff Gartly reported on the very successful Urban Beach Camp.
The meeting closed with a sergeant’s session from Tim
(our normal meeting reporter , Zilla is still unable to attend meetings due to a very bad cold/flu/chest infection. We wish her a speedy recovery)
