Our Rotary club is a proud supporter of the Caulfield South Community House Community Garden, which is located at 450-452 Kooyong Rd, South Caulfield – enter the garden area off Jupiter St.
Open days are held there each second Sunday of the month.

Our Rotary club last year 2021, provided the funding for a new project, that being “Nature Strip Gardens” and club members were invited along on Sunday last to see the outcome of this funding, and to learn how the nature strip gardens came about, the process to bring them to the fruition seen in the attached photos.
Jo Impey and I happily picked up that invitation on the club’s behalf and attended on Sunday.
We meet with over a dozen volunteers who attend the garden, there was an information session on how to plant a nature strip garden and the process in place for planning such a venture along with needing a council permit and particular types of plants that can be planted out on nature strips. There was also a tour of the garden beds and lots of conversation as to how everything works.
The community is more than just a place for “green thumb” gardeners to attend, it provides a safe community place where all who attend can do as much or as little as they wish, either gardening, or just to have a chat and coffee with others. One volunteer teaches card games each Thursday in the garden area.
the agenda of the community house is to run programs that improve both physical and mental well being in a family atmosphere. This was well in evidence on our visit
Morning tea was provided and both Jo and I were made to feel very welcome and all volunteers there on the day were so happy to take us around and show off the amazing facility and work that is being achieved.
I would encourage members of our club to go along and see for yourselves the work that our donations create.
