Visiting Rotarian. Liz De Nittis ( mother of Loretta)
President Geoff commented on the “set back” as Victoria was in a snap 5 day lockdown, hence we had to resort to zoom for our meeting.
He mentioned that the Board met the night before. He also encouraged members to participate in the club strategic planning meetings.
Presentation by Loretta.
Loretta arrived in Finland in October when it was covered in half a metre of snow, which was a totally new experience for her.
She then gave a brief summary of Finland which is a country with a population of 5.5million people and 188,000 lakes. It is therefore commonly referred to as the “land of lakes.”
The capital of Finland is Helsinki. Loretta then showed us a picture of a  “Moomin”  and said that it is a “character” ingrained in the Finnish culture.
During her stay in Finland, Loretta lived in Orimatta, which has population of 16,000 and is 40 minutes train ride from Helsinki. She lived with 3 host families during her time in Finland. One of the host families has a daughter who is also in RYE and was in Tasmania at that time.
Loretta described her experiences living with the 3 host families and showed many photographs of the times she spent with them and activities they did in Summer and Winter, as well as the places they visited.
She admitted that school was a challenge as all lessons were conducted in Finnish.
Loretta then thanked the club for our sponsorship.
